Film Feedback for Pride

Have you ever wished you could give some feedback for LBTQ* films shown at Pride? Here’s your chance! The Reel Pride programming committee is looking for volunteers who would like to review films and help select what will be screened at Reel Pride this year.  An internet-connected computer, time, and opinions about film are required.

It almost sounds like LACE should have a movie sub-committee! If you’re interested in group pre-viewings, email praxis2121@gmail.com.

If you’d rather go it alone, here’s the link to apply: http://reelpride.org/programming-committee?utm_source=Reel+Pride%3A+General+Mailing+List&utm_campaign=477ad76dd7-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_04_25&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_332bd7363c-477ad76dd7-202665881

Time to Start Thinking about Pride!

Pride is May 26th to June 4, so mark your calendars! It’s the 30th anniversary, and more details about the schedule get released next week.

The 30th Anniverary theme is” Resurgence: Taking Back Space”. The term Resurgence is defined as: a rising again into life, activity, or prominence. Over the past decades, the Pride movement evolved from one of protest and demonstration, to one of celebration. However, the celebration has mainly been for Lesbian and Gay individuals, while our Bisexual, Trans-Identified, Two-Spirit, Non-Binary, Queer and Queer People of Colour communities have not yet felt the same progress and desire for celebration of equality.

Here’s the website for general info: http://www.pridewinnipeg.com/pride/

May 6 Rainbow Resource Gala

Rainbow Resource Centre’s Spring Fling is always the best fundraising gala in Winnipeg — great fun, delicious food, amazing music, and wonderful friends coming together for an important cause.

Studio 54 comes to life as we celebrate the influence of disco on LGBT2SQ+ culture! As we party, we’ll enjoy an extravagant gourmet dinner prepared by Delta Winnipeg’s Head Chef, fine wines, and cap off the evening with dancing. Our larger-than-life line-up includes Emcee Chantel Marostica, Big City All Star Band, Alexa Silver, and our very own Satina Loren.

Headlining the night is Naomi Smalls — runner-up from season 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race! This seven-foot glamazon’s performance will bring down the house and make this the gala to remember!

Tickets are $150 each and are now available at http://www.rainbowspringfling.com/! (A charitable tax receipt will be issued for a portion of the ticket price.)

Gay Lunch Podcast and Launch

Check out the first Gay Lunch podcast by Mackenzie and Kammer: https://www.gaylunchpodcast.com

You can’t go wrong with gay and lunch! There is also a launch May 13th at Fools & Horses at 7:00 pm. As they say on their website: “It’s free so you have nothing to lose except patience!”

Survey Feedback

Thanks for the first group of folks who have provided feedback on the survey! It looks like the main things people want are a) to get information (85%), b) to meet new people (76%), and c) to go to events with others (71%).  The vast majority (95%) of people want to go see LGBTQ-oriented arts events (but not sports!) but quite a few (80%) like the dinners. Most people think that once a month is about the right frequency for a LACE-organized event, although an equal number of people say they’re super busy and can’t necessarily go as often as they’d like to.

If you haven’t already done so and you’re still interested in adding your opinion into the mix, please feel free: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LACEFEEDBACK2017

And, if you hear about community information that fits the above interests and should be going out to everyone, please feel free to send that info to praxis2121@gmail.com.

Have a good one!

The next LACE dinner will for sure be at Le Garage (166 Provencher, parking right next door) on Thursday, April 27. We’ll be there for drinks at 6 and dinner around 6:30. (Here’s their website: http://www.garagecafe.ca/?page_id=9 )

If you’d like to join the group (10 people have emailed so far), please email praxis2121@gmail.com so we can let them know numbers. Thanks!
