Research Project

A researcher in our community is conducting interviews with elders in the trans community as part of a oral history project. There are oral histories of queer community members archived at the Manitoba Gay and Lesbian archives which have been hugely important in documenting the past and were a big part of the research done for Valerie Korenik’s 2018 book “Prairie Fairies: A History of Queer Communities and People in Western Canada, 1930-1985”. However, there are very few oral testimonies from transgender individuals and queer historical work in Winnipeg and the prairies has largely overlooked these histories.
